Introduction
CARB and CEC are working with a variety of local governments to implement the Electric Vehicle Rebate Project (EVRP) in order to meet California’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. In conjunction with the EVRP, SacRT has partnered with CARB and CEC to offer pilot funding of up to $5,000 per vehicle, depending on vehicle battery size.
Electric Vehicle Rebate Project
The purpose of this program is to help local governments promote sustainable transportation options, such as electric vehicles (EVs), by providing funding for EV purchases and charging stations. Rebates are available for up to $5,000 per vehicle and up to $30,000 per site.
The Electric Vehicle Rebate Project (EVRP) is funded by CARB and CEC under Assembly Bill 1046.
Pilot program to provide electric vehicle rebates
SacRT is offering up to $5,000 per vehicle in rebates for new electric vehicles and up to $2,500 per vehicle in rebates for used electric vehicles. The rebate is also available for electric scooters and motorcycles, as well as bicycles that can be pedaled or powered by electricity.
The SacRT pilot program will run through the end of 2020 and includes the following benefits:
- Rebate amounts are adjusted based on battery size (larger batteries have higher rebates). For example: A Nissan Leaf with a 40 kWh battery gets you $4,000 back; if you buy something like an e-Golf with a 28 kWh pack then your rebate would be only $2K; meanwhile if you decide on an i3 with its 22 kWh pack then your rebate would be just under $3K! This means that newer models tend to get more money back than older ones since they’re generally equipped with larger packs than their predecessors offered up front when they were first introduced into marketplaces across North America…
The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) has partnered with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the California Energy Commission (CEC) to offer pilot funding of up to $5,000 per vehicle, depending on vehicle battery size.

The program will run through June 30th 2019 and includes rebates for electric vehicles that meet the following criteria:
- Zero emission vehicles (ZEVs)
- Electric trucks weighing less than 26000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) that operate on battery power alone without any internal combustion engine assistance during operation; or plug-in hybrid electric trucks with an overall GVWR greater than 26000 pounds but less than 80000 pounds; or all other types of electric vehicles including motorcycles
